Welcome To The Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program

The Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program was established in 1989 by the Florida Legislature to encourage qualified personnel to seek employment in areas of the state where critical nursing shortages exist.

The Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program is operated by the Office of Public Health Nursing at the Florida Department of Health and provides funds to assist in the repayment of nursing education loans. The program has provided over $3.3 million dollars since 2002 to applicants accepted and enrolled. Enrollment is based on available funds, and provides up to $4,000 a year for a maximum of 4 years in repayment of nursing educational loans.

Requirements for Eligibility:

  • Must be licensed as an LPN, RN, or ARNP in the State of Florida

  • Must have loans incurred toward a nursing education

  • Must work full-time at one of the designated sites established in Section 1009.66, Florida Statutes

Application Timeframes are:

  • November 1 - December 1

  • February 1 - March 1

  • May 1 - June 1

  • August 1 - September 1
